Verstappen reacts to rumoured Wolff meeting

Max Verstappen has comically reacted to a rumoured meeting with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, by simply noting that he does not “remember”. 

Wolff is rumoured to have held a meeting with Verstappen’s management team and the three-time world champion, to discuss a potential move to the Silver Arrows. 

Verstappen has been linked to a Mercedes seat several times this season, following recent off-track incidents at Red Bull. 

The Mercedes team principal has also spoken openly about his desire to work with the 26-year-old, who he is convinced he will partner in the future. 

However, ahead of this weekend in Zandvoort, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner insisted that Verstappen will not move to the Brackley-based outfit.

When asked about the meeting, Verstappen appeared confused at what was being spoken about.

“Which meeting?” asked Verstappen, before he responded to whether it was just his management present, “I don’t remember.”

Wolff almost signed Verstappen nearly a decade ago prior to the Dutchman joining the Red Bull family, with the Austrian having expressed his interest in the reigning world champion several times.

Verstappen is not bothered by the Mercedes boss speaking about him so often and revealed that he has a good relationship with the senior figure. 

“No. I mean, everyone can say what they want, and I get on very well with Toto,” said Verstappen. 

“I think he’s very open about what’s happening within his team, right? Also, I think, with the driver line-up and stuff. 

“So there’s nothing wrong with that, and at the same time I just focus on my job. There’s a lot to do anyway. So, yeah, we just focus on that.”
