Tsunoda shares ambition for long-awaited Red Bull test

Yuki Tsunoda is optimistic that he will be able to provide Red Bull with some potential areas for future development in his long-awaited test.

The Japanese racer is stepping up to the senior Red Bull team for the first time in the Yas Marina test as both regular race drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez skip the running.

Tsunoda has up until now been overlooked by Red Bull in conversations regarding a potential replacement for Perez, if the Mexican is, as is widely expected, dropped after his poor season.

Liam Lawson is understood to be the favourite for the seat, but Tsunoda is not giving up hope of convincing Red Bull he deserves a chance after four reasons at AlphaTauri and RB.

Looking ahead to what he hoped to deliver in his day aboard the RB20, Tsunoda explained his thinking.

“I am looking forward to it, it is the first time I’m driving a car as a Formula 1 driver, I will enjoy it, but at the same time, I am fully focused,” he told media including RacingNews365.

“It is something I can look forward to and hope I can give something, some feedback that they can benefit from for future developments.

“I haven’t received a run plan yet, but to be honest, I want to do what they ask me to do and even if I don’t get a performance run, there are other things that I can do to impress them, so I am pretty confident.

“Maybe I can give some more details extra on top of what they are thinking, but it is up to them what they are going to decide, and it is pretty clear what I have done this year.
