Shocking sabotage claim made by racing team

A karting team has alleged it was deliberately sabotaged by a rival squad last weekend during the IAME UAE Series.

Xcel Motorsport, a team that competes in various motorsport categories, has claimed sugar was poured into the fuel tank of its senior drivers at the karting event.

The alleged incident occurred during the fifth round of the year from the RAK Track in Ras Al-Khaimah.

Xcel Motorsport has heavily condemned the situation and labelled it a “disgraceful” act against motorsport fair play.

“It is with deep disappointment that we address an egregious act of foul play that occurred during Round 5 of the IAME UAE Series,” read a statement from the team.

“A competitor-whose identity we will not disclose to protect what little dignity they may have left-entered our tent yesterday evening and maliciously poured sugar into the fuel tanks of all three of our senior drivers.

“This act not only posed a significant financial burden on our team’s customers but also jeopardised the championship standings of our drivers. Such behaviour is utterly disgraceful and goes against the spirit of fair competition that motorsport stands for.

“It is truly unfortunate that another team has resorted to such disgraceful actions, risking not only their own reputation but their drivers also.”

Xcel Motorsport is now pushing for the incident to be thoroughly investigated and for the alleged team in question to be punished.

“We call upon the IAME UAE Series and EMSO to investigate this matter thoroughly and take the appropriate action to ensure such conduct is dealt with the severity it deserves. This sport relies on trust, respect, and a shared commitment to fairness – values we will always uphold.

“Xcel Motorsport remains focused on our mission to compete honourably and will not let this incident deter us from our goals.”
