Seven special helmets for Singapore · RaceFans

Although it is a staple on the Formula 1 calendar and hardly unique as a night race, the Singapore Grand Prix has increasingly become one of the more celebrated rounds on the grand prix calendar.

As such, teams are getting into the habit of turning up to the event with special liveries on their cars, while multiple drivers will be rocking special helmet designs for this weekend.

Lando Norris will sport a very different design to usual under the lights in Singapore, as will McLaren team mate Oscar Piastri. The RB pair also have new looks for this weekend, as do Alexander Albon, Nico Hulkenberg and Zhou Guanyu.

Norris and Piastri can be hard to tell apart at a glance by their helmet designs as they both race with bright yellow helmets.

However it should be easier to spot the difference between the pair this weekend as Norris will sport this trippy ‘liquid carbon’ look which appears as if someone has taken a blowtorch to his helmet and melted the paint off.

Created as a tie-in with his Quadrant brand, the helmet also features an eye-catching glow-in-the-dark effect.

Not to be outdone by his McLaren team mate, Piastri is also running with a special lid for this weekend.

The bright lights that line the Marina Bay street circuit are perfect for bringing out sparkles and glitter, as many drivers have taken advantage of with various helmet designs over the years.

Described by the driver as having a “diamond effect”, the design is clearly intended to reflect the floodlights and stand out from the darker look his team mate is going for in Marina Bay.

Albon will celebrate his Thai heritage this weekend with this striking helmet design as the Singapore Grand Prix is the closest race on the calendar to the country.

Designed by Thai artist Gongkan, the design was voted on by entrants to a competition with Thai vineyard Monsoon Valley, a sponsor of the driver. Featuring his familiar light blue colours, the design includes this eye-catching image of a Naga, a serpentine deity found in the mythology of cultures across Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism.

For the final grand prix in Asia of the 2024 season, Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda is celebrating with this attractive helmet design featuring that most famous of mythological Asian creatures, a dragon.

Set on a white base, the colour dragon motif truly stands out among the designs of his peers. The mouth of the creature also sits where Tsunoda’s mouth would be – which may or may not serve as a visual metaphor for occasional red-hot radio outbursts…

Daniel Ricciardo has run with a flame motif on his helmet for a considerable time now, one of many themes the eclectic veteran driver has had over his more than a decade in F1.

Like many of his rivals he is racing with this weekend, Ricciardo has added a sprinkle of sparkles to his design in order to make his helmet ‘pop’ more under the lights.

Like Piastri and Ricciardo, Nico Hulkenberg has decided to take the same approach. He has added an attractive shimmering effect to his helmet design, with contrasts nicely with the day-glo yellow of his usual design. He will not just be using this sparkly look in Singapore, but at all the remaining night races in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi too.

As well as becoming the first ever Formula 1 driver from China to compete in a grand prix, score a point and race at the Chinese Grand Prix, Zhou Guanyu had his greatest achievement earlier this year – becoming a ‘cat dad’.

In what could well be Zhou’s final grand prix in Asia, the Sauber driver is honouring the most important family member in his life: his adorable cat Sweetcorn.
