Sainz makes Ferrari prediction ahead of uncertain F1 season

Carlos Sainz has backed Ferrari to challenge for the F1 title in 2025 following its strong campaign this year.

The Italian squad narrowly missed out on its first championship in 16 years as it ended the constructors’ championship 14 points down on winners McLaren.

It also marked Sainz’s final season at the Italian squad after being informed at the start of the year he would be replaced by Lewis Hamilton for 2025.

With the F1 field ending this year so close and the regulations undergoing little-to-no changes next year, the season could be one of the closest F1 title battles for some time.

Sainz has backed Ferrari to emerge as a leading contender in the fight for both F1 titles.

“I feel very proud of my time at Ferrari,” Sainz told media including RacingNews365

“Proud to have contributed these four years to bring this team back to where it belongs, that is fighting for world championships.

“Unfortunately, like Charles said, we didn’t manage this year [to win], but I have a feeling that Ferrari is now ready to fight for the world championship next year.

“And together with Charles, I honestly believe they have a very good chance, and they are, for me, one of the favourites for next year.”

Sainz will join Williams for next year’s campaign, signing a multi-year deal with the Grove-based squad to partner Alex Albon.

His final year at Ferrari was his most successful, with two wins, nine podiums and 290 points – leaving him pleased to end his stint on a high note.

“From my side, I’m proud of the four years, but maybe more proud of this last year,” he said.
