Lawson fought too hard against “sister team”

In the round-up: Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko criticised Liam Lawson over his scrap with Sergio Perez during the Mexican Grand Prix.

In brief

Lawson’s defence accepted against “someone else” – Marko

Lawson, who drives for Red Bull’s second team RB, successfully defended his position from Perez when he came under attack at turn four. The two drivers forced each other wide at times, and Perez sustained floor damage, but the stewards cleared the pair over their clash.

However Marko said Lawson should have paid more attention to the fact he was racing a fellow Red Bull driver.

“Lawson is more to blame,” he told Motorsport-Magazin. “If it had been someone else, that would have been just about okay, but not with the sister team.”

Alonso was another victim of start collision

Fernando Alonso revealed he retired from his 400th grand prix weekend as a result of first-lap collision between Yuki Tsunoda and Alexander Albon.

“The start was good, he explained, “obviously a lot of action in front of us, so we capitalised on that.

“But apparently there is a little bit of debris on the front brake. The temperatures were over the moon, so we tried to mitigate that, moving the brake balance rearwards and different actions. But they were still not under control so unfortunately we had to retire the car today.”

Camara wins shortened FREC finale

Formula Regional European champion Rafael Camara won the final race of the year at Monza, which ended early when a car caught fire following a collision between two drivers at Lesmo 2. No injuries were reported following the crash between Zachary David and Ruiqi Liu.
