Lindblad looks ‘really promising’ to Red Bull

In the round-up: Following the latest shake-up at the top of Red Bull’s Formula 1 programme, the team’s motorsport consultant Helmut Marko has identified its next likely star.

In brief

Marko names Lindblad as future star

Arvid Lindblad, who finished fourth in Formula 3 this year at the age of 17, looks like a strong candidate for the future, said Marko. “We are not looking for a new Max [Verstappen], we are looking for a new champion. And I think the next one which looks really promising is Arvid Lindblad.”

Although Lindblad hasn’t won a championship since graduating from karts, Marko said “what is making him outstanding is his pure speed.”

“In one of the Formula 3 races he overtook in one lap, I don’t know, 10 or 14 other drivers,” he explained. “He won the race from being last in these tricky conditions: wet, dry and so on.”

“He will be next year in Formula 2,” Marko added. “He is doing a very good preparation. The test was okay, we are doing a special programme for him, sending him to New Zealand in this [Formula Regional] championship and the goal is to win it so he gets the necessary points for his superlicence.”
