Porsche strike as BMW suffer bizarre pit lane crash – 4hr report

Porsche Penske hold a one-two in the 2025 Daytona 24 Hours, following a fast-paced opening four hours of the 63rd edition of the legendary race.

The #24 BMW had made the perfect start from pole position, with Dries Vanthoor’s opening stint having been almost perfect.

However, he described his stint as “shit” after crashing into the pit wall when entering pit road for what was the car’s first driver change.

The mistake cost the #24 crew several seconds and demoted it to P10, although had recovered to fourth by the four-hour mark.

Porsche capitalised on the error and enjoyed a clean first four hours, with the #7 car having led at the four-hour mark after starting in third.

The big mover in GTP was the other Porsche Penske car, the #6, which had progressed from 10th at the start to second. In third after four hours was the #25 BMW, a car which began in 12th.

Other classes

Remarkably, the first four hours featured just one period of full course yellow, lasting almost 25 minutes.

It was caused by a crash for the #11 TDS Racing LMP2, which slid off and went deep into a tyre barrier.

The LMP2 class saw immediate drama at the first corner, with the #2 United Autosports car having slid on its own. However, an impressive recovery saw it move back into second after four hours.

LMP2 was led by the #99 AO Racing car, with the #88 PECOM Racing car in third.

As for the GT classes, GTD Pro was led by a Ford one-two, with the #64 and #65 crews being first and second in the same order it started the race at the front of the class. In third was the #3 Corvette Racing by Paul Miller.

And finally, as the sun began to set at the four-hour point, the GTD class was topped by the #27 Heart of Racing Team Aston Martin, ahead of the #78 Forte Racing and #120 Wrights Motorsport cars.

A second FCY was triggered just past the four-hour mark, watch the action by clicking here!
