Perez calls for Hamilton penalty after Zandvoort incident

Sergio Perez has called on F1 stewards to hand Lewis Hamilton a grid penalty following their incident in Dutch Grand Prix qualifying.

Perez was allegedly impeded by Hamilton in Q1 at Zandvoort as the Mercedes was on a slow lap with the Mexican on a flying effort.

As Perez drifted to the left to open up the entry to Turn 10, he nearly ran into Hamilton, forcing him to abort and use a second set of fresh soft tyres.

Hamilton would be knocked out in Q2, starting 12th, with Perez fifth as the Red Bull driver felt a three-place grid drop was all but necessary.

“He has tried his best [to get out of the way] but unfortunately, we just ended up in the wrong [place] at the wrong time,” Perez told media including RacingNews365.

“The stewards have been really strict this year, and I’ve got penalties for a lot worse than that, so I do expect him to get a penalty, unfortunately.

“I think he did the best he could [to get out of the way], and there probably should be a little more [margin given] in that regard, but it is what it is.”
