Nürburgring race red-flagged after scary multi-car shunt

A red flag has been flown after a six-car crash in the fourth round of the Nürburgring Endurance Series, which has been overshadowed by a paddock explosion on Friday evening.

The multi-car accident occurred as a result of shocking track conditions due to heavy rain, with several drivers having been caught out by aquaplaning before all crashing into the same barrier.

Six GT3 cars were involved in the accident, which happened after a cylinder exploded in the paddock on Friday evening.

According to German outlet Motorsport-Total, 22 people were injured in the blast, with several ambulances and rescue helicopters having been dispatched to treat people.

The race will resume at 1400 local time.
