Mercedes to use special green livery in honour of sponsor Petronas · RaceFans

Mercedes will run a special green livery at this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix in recognition of its title sponsor Petronas.

The silver areas of the W15’s colour scheme will be replaced with green for this weekend’s race only.

Malaysia’s state-owned oil producer is marking its 50th anniversary this weekend at the Singapore Grand Prix. As Malaysia no longer hosts a round of the world championship, this is the nearest F1 comes to visiting its home country.

Petronas has been Mercedes’ title sponsor since the manufacturer revived its works Formula 1 team in 2010. The team has used its oil and lubricants products since then.

During their 15 years together Mercedes has won eight constructors’ championships. Its drivers have won a total of seven titles, six for Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg.

Hamilton said Petronas have “played such a crucial role in the success that we’ve enjoyed” since he joined Mercedes in 2013. “The livery looks incredible. I can’t wait to see it on the car in the garage tomorrow and then to get behind the wheel on Friday.”

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said Petronas have been their most enduring partner since 2010. “This livery is therefore not only a celebration of their 50th anniversary, but a reflection of Petronas’ importance in our team’s story and honours our journey together.”

Mercedes has only seldom taken advantage of the opportunity for F1 teams to run special liveries. It previously did so at the German Grand Prix in 2019, running a part-white livery to mark Mercedes’ 125th year of competition in motorsport.
