Marko alludes to Red Bull changes for 2025 F1 season

Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko has suggested there could be changes in the pipeline at Red Bull and RB, despite the teams driver line-ups now confirmed to remain unchanged this season.

The Milton Keynes and Faenza-based squads will not see any drivers swapping positions when F1 returns at Zandvoort following the summer break.

This was confirmed on Monday, the news coming after weeks of speculation that either Liam Lawson or Daniel Ricciardo could be jettisoned in to replace the underperforming and under fire Sergio Perez.

However, Marko insists that Red Bull want to see the Mexican driver re-find his form, after taking a meagre 28 points in the previous eight rounds.

“Perez is staying. We want him to return to his old level. Ricciardo also stays and so nothing changes,” he told F1-Insider.

Perez signed a new deal with the constructors’ champions earlier in the season for 2025, with a team option for 2026.

That was agreed during a difficult patch for the 34-year-old, and it was hoped the added security would help pull him out of that slump. That did not happen, and the six-time grand prix winner’s form continued to worsen.

What was key in the news coming out of Red Bull earlier in the week, is that Perez’s seat is only guaranteed until the end of the 2024 season – the end of his existing deal.

Meanwhile, Ricciardo has staved off early-season pressure to solidify his place at RB. The Australian began the year slowly, but has since recovered his form – something that heightened the calls for Perez to be stood down at Red Bull.

Despite this, with Lawson considered ready for a full-time F1 seat, there could still be changes within the Red Bull family over the winter, with Marko adding: “For 2025, the cards will be reshuffled.”
