Lewis Hamilton has suggested the idea to introduce a two-stop strategy at the Monaco Grand Prix was his idea.
The event at Monaco is set to see a major rule change this year with two pit stops being mandatory during the race.
This is an increase from the sole pit stop that every driver is required to serve at the other grands prix.
F1 has opted to install the rule change at Monaco in a bid to freshen up the race spectacle, which has been heavily criticised in recent years.
With the current cars being wider and longer than ever before, wheel-to-wheel battles are near impossible around the narrow track.
Hamilton has outlined he has been pushing for the rule to be introduced at Monaco for the last several years.
“I’m pretty sure that was my idea anyways,” Hamilton said.
“But if you go back and look at some of the transcripts of previous years, I’ve been mentioning the two stop for years.
“I think Monaco has to be at least a two-stop. The one-stop was never really great.
“That [Monaco] Grand Prix is a great grand prix, but the race has more to offer in the race, hopefully. Maybe with more than one pit stop.”
Hamilton acknowledged the rule change will not help the racing spectacle, but rather create a increased sense of unpredictability.
“That won’t fix it all. We’ll still see some of the issues of not overtaking and stuff, but I think it will make it more exciting. So I’m all for it.”
