Leclerc airs Ferrari ‘worst run’ repeat concern

Charles Leclerc has warned Ferrari must be “cautious” following its victory at Monza.

The Italian squad took its third win of the campaign last time out on home soil, with Leclerc fending off McLaren’s Oscar Piastri on a one-stop strategy.

Ferrari has brought itself into contention for the constructors’ title as Red Bull’s slip in form over recent races has seen the gap narrow to just 40 points between the two teams.

However, Leclerc warned Ferrari cannot consider itself a consistent front-running challenger after its form at Monza.

“We’ve got to be cautious,” Leclerc told media including RacingNews365. 

“After Monaco, I think we’ve had the four worst races of the season because Monaco was so specific to our car at that time. Monza is also a very specific and particular track. 

“Lots of straights, not many corners. We had a rear wing for this track as well, which helped us to win [at Monza].”

Leclerc also played down the long-term potential of the upgrade Ferrari brought to Monza.

“We also had another upgrade, which I think definitely brought us closer to McLaren, but I don’t think it’s enough to be the car to beat for the rest of the season on other tracks,” he said. 

“I think we still have a lot of work to do, but I’m really happy anyway to have won in Italy.”
