Jaguar trouble in red-flagged second Formula E test session

Jake Hughes topped the second Formula E pre-season testing session, which featured two red flags.

Hughes set a stellar 1:28.604 to set the pace on Wednesday morning, with his time having been six tenths quicker than what was achieved in the opening session on Tuesday evening.

It was a disrupted session, as Sam Bird beached his McLaren at the first corner just an hour into running. The Briton is believed to have been trying to let a faster car overtake.

The times tumbled as the session went on, before a second red flag was flown with 20 minutes remaining.

Season 10 title challenger Nick Cassidy came to a halt along the start/finish straight just past the pit entry, where his car had to be recovered.

It marked a frustrating end to what was Jaguar’s first session of the test, as the British manufacturer and Nissan both missed Tuesday’s action as a punishment for breaching the cost cap.

Kiro’s Dan Ticktum was second on the timesheets but three tenths down on Hughes, whilst reigning world champion Pascal Wehrlein was third.
