Iconic F1 track secures future with new multi-year deal

F1 has confirmed it has reached an agreement with the Monza Circuit to keep it on the calendar for several more years.

The track, which has long been the host of the Italian Grand Prix, was to have its previous contract expire at the end of next year.

However, the new agreement will see Monza continue to host a world championship race until the end of 2031.

It is the latest event to secure new terms with F1 after Monaco also reached a new five-year deal with the sport earlier this month.

“I am delighted that the Italian Grand Prix will remain on the calendar until 2031,” said F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.

“Monza is at the very heart of Formula 1 history and the atmosphere each year is unique as the Tifosi gather in huge numbers to cheer on Ferrari and the drivers.

“The recent upgrades to the circuit’s infrastructure and the planned investment show a strong commitment to the long-term future of Formula 1 in Italy, and I want to thank the President of the Automobile Club d’Italia, the Italian Government, and the Lombardy Region for their continued passion and commitment to our sport.

“I also want to pay tribute to our incredible fans across the country who support Formula 1 so passionately.”

Monza has a long history with F1 and made its first appearance on the schedule in 1950 as part of the maiden world championship.

It has hosted the Italian Grand Prix every year bar 1980 due to ongoing refurbishments.
