How many millions the F1 teams won in 2024

Yearly, Liberty Media hands out millions in prize money. RacingNews365 understands that 45% of the total F1 revenue goes directly to the teams.

Part of that consists of prize money, to be distributed via a descending percentage scale, another part consists of bonuses.

Last year, the prize money pot (excluding bonuses) was estimated at $1 billion. Looking at Liberty Media’s revenue in 2024, we see that after the third quarter it had 25% more revenue than in the first three quarters in 2023.

However, we do see that each quarter the growth decreases somewhat, so for the table below we assume a 15% increase in revenue over the entire year.

If we pass that same 15% on to this year’s prize money compared to last year, we arrive at the amounts below.

The champion takes 14% of the prize pool, 10th place takes 6%. This brings us to the figures below. McLaren, as champion, takes the largest amount.

A small detail is that although Red Bull finished in third, Max Verstappen’s team will receive at least as much as in 2023 ($140 million), due to the larger total pot.

Figures are approximate and rounded to whole millions.
