Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is not confident his drivers Max Verstappen or Yuki Tsunoda could compete for pole position in Bahrain.

“The McLarens have been exceptionally quick through the practice sessions, all three sessions, particularly in the heat of day,” Horner began to F1 TV.

According to the Red Bull team principal, unless the McLarens make a mistake, it is hard to imagine someone can beat them.

“I cannot see anybody breaking that. We thought similarly last weekend we were able to do it, but I think this one, quite frankly, unless they make a mistake, I think it would be very difficult to split the McLarens today.”

Battle of best of the rest for Red Bull according to Horner

As Horner sees that catching McLaren seems to be out of question for this evening, Red Bull are focusing on the team’s around them. The Woking-based team’s performance particularly stands out compared to Red Bull’s dominant period as well for the Briton.

He explained: “The gap [to McLaren], particularly in P3, in the heat of the day, was ‘wow’. That was beyond anything we ever saw in our most dominant time. So, yes, truly impressive.”

“Different wind conditions now. And behind those two car it’s pretty tight. So, you know, I think it’s going to be a battle to be best of the rest this afternoon,” the Briton concluded.
