Formula E launches major financial Valencia support initiative

Formula E has pledged at least €50,000 to support the immediate relief and long-term assistance of the most impacted Valencian towns, following the deadly flash floods. 

Over 200 people have been killed in the horrific natural disaster, with several still missing in the region. 

FE pre-season testing was supposed to take place there this week; however, the test was moved at the last-minute by the all-electric series to Madrid. 

On the opening day of the test at the Circuito de Jarama, a minute’s silence was held to recognise those in Valencia who have lost their lives. 

Valencia, being the hub of FE’s logistics, has a special place in the championship’s heart and DNA. 

A GoFundMe page has ben set-up by the series, which is open to partners, teams, and staff to contribute.

Formula E’s initiative to support Valencia will see it target two areas: urgent assistance and supporting sustainable recovery efforts. 

The initiative also includes a volunteering scheme, which FE will contribute to whilst working with local leaders. All teams are running a special symbol in support and recognition of Valencia. 

“As my birthplace, Valencia has always been a very special place for me and my heartfelt condolences go out to all those affected in the region,” said Alberto Longo, Formula E co-founder and chief championship officer.

“From the pictures alone parts of Valencia look completely devastated, so I can only begin to imagine what the reality must be like for those living and working there. 

“We feel it’s only right to support as many people as possible who are impacted both in the short and long term, given their support for us since 2017. Together as a Formula E community, we want to show our support and solidarity in any way we can.”
