During the routine high-speed laps of the track that the safety and medical cars do on a Thursday, under braking for the Parabolica, driver Bernd Maylander lost control and spun at high-speed into the gravel and hit the wall.
Fortunately, both he and his passenger were okay as Aston Martin launched an investigation.

Monza changes slammed
Meanwhile, the track changes made at Monza have come under scrutiny by some of the drivers.
In particular, Daniel Ricciardo and GPDA director George Russell are not impressed, with Ricciardo fearing that some of the old-school charm of Monza has been lost.
In addition to a resurfacing, Monza has got rid of the kerbs at the chicanes, with Russell zeroing in on the impact this will have at the Ascari chicane.

Alpine protest
Coming into the weekend, some staff at Viry, Renault’s engine base, are to protest at Monza.
It is in response to the planned closure of the F1 power unit division Renault is discussing, with no final decision yet made.
Some staff at Viry are going on strike with around 100 present at Monza – although no impact on trackside operations is expected.

Ferrari’s Monza special
Upgrades are always the name of the F1 game, and especially so for Ferrari at Monza.
It has taken pole here in both 2022 and 2023, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz 1-1 in that particular area.
But for its home race, Ferrari has gone radical, with what might be described as the ‘Monza special.’
