F1 drivers set for extreme weather conditions at Monza

The famous Monza Circuit is the host of round 16 of the F1 world championship this weekend, hosting the Italian Grand Prix.

Red Bull enter the race looking to protect its lead in the constructors’ championship which is now being threatened by McLaren.

Ferrari, meanwhile, is looking for a boost in form to please its home crowd having slipped back in the pecking order in the mid-part of the season.

But what weather conditions are set to befall the drivers at the Italian race?

Hot conditions

With the threat of rain persisting throughout the event at Zandvoort last weekend, teams will not have to worry about such a repeat this time around.

Throughout the weekend, the temperature will rise to between 32°C and 34°C as sunshine is forecast all through the three days.

With the hot sun beaming onto the asphalt, it could see the track temperature rise to as high as 60°C which could cause issues for the Pirelli F1 tyres.

Friday and Saturday will be almost cloudless, but to the north in the Alps mountains, thunderstorms may develop later in the day but should not threaten the track.

On Sunday, the risk of thunderstorms to the north will remain but the chance of a completely dry race around Monza remains extremely high.

Fans travelling to the event are heavily advised to wear sun protection throughout the weekend to shield their skin.
