Former F1 driver and now Sky Sports pundit Martin Brundle does not understand why Red Bull “are in such a mess with drivers” despite boasting one of the best driver academies in motorsport.
Right from the start of the 2025 Formula 1 season, two drivers in particular were under pressure: Liam Lawson and Jack Doohan. As far as Martin Brundle is concerned, this puts the drivers in an unfair position. The analyst and former F1 driver also addresses the race of Max Verstappen, in whom Brundle saw something happen that he believes “raises questions”.
Liam Lawson is set to make his F1 debut at not quite his home Grand Prix in Australia, but that is the closest it gets for the driver from New Zealand. Many travelling fans hope Lawson could pull off a great result. What should be his goal given his teammate is the defending world champion? Former driver Martin Brundle shared his verdict.
Max Verstappen has to watch his step for now. The Red Bull Racing driver has eight penalty points on his licence, and twelve will see the Dutchman face a one-race ban. To avoid that the four-time world champion could have a more careful approach as to how he goes racing, something Martin Brundle does not see happening.
If the book-keepers are right, Lando Norris is the big favourite for the world title in 2025. Predominantly Brtish F1 analysts also see the McLaren driver as the man to take his first-ever world title in 2025. Only Martin Brundle thinks otherwise. The former F1 driver and current analyst thinks Max Verstappen is going to be number one again this season.
After a hugely competitive 2024, a season that many thought would be quite a one-sided affair, the upcoming Formula 1 season has everything to be a stunning year. As many as four teams are considered capable of competing for Grand Prix wins and perhaps world titles. But who will be the strongest in this campaign? Martin Brundle has his say and predicts what the front of the grid will do.
