It is currently quiet around Sergio Perez. Since the Mexican was sidelined by Red Bull Racing, Max Verstappen’s former teammate has disappeared into anonymity – except for the occasional sponsorship event. However, there are still plenty of rumours flying around about Perez’s racing future. But are any of them real?
Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso have indicated in the past that they would like to drive in the Le Mans 24 Hours together one day. Jos Verstappen seemed to be their team-mate for a long time, but he has since indicated that he is no longer interested. The duo is therefore looking for a third driver, who only has to fulfil one specific requirement.
After the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel quit Formula 1. It has now been two full seasons since the four-time world champion has driven a race. Rumours of a comeback have been around from time to time, although these usually involve an entry into endurance racing.
Ford has announced that it will participate in the Hypercar class of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027, meaning the American manufacturer will also compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Big ambitions are coming from Ford in the coming years, as they will also be active in Formula 1 from 2026 in partnership with Red Bull Racing.
