Christijan Albers, regularly very critical of Red Bull Racing’s team principal, Christian Horner, had something positive to say about the Brit.
It sounds somewhat remarkable coming from Albers: “Politically speaking, I think Christian Horner has handled it well. In terms of marketing, the way they presented that they don’t want Lawson to completely break.”
“To be honest, how he presented it to the public shows that they had seriously thought about it,” referring to Red Bull’s decision to swap Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda between Red Bull and sister team Racing bulls ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix
Albers still disagrees with
A decision Albers still disagrees with, since the Duthman believes that Suzuka would have been the perfect place for the Kiwi driver to showcase his skill, since he knows the track like the back of his hand.
“Then you could have made a really good decision. Now it was just difficult. Now you can’t measure that anymore. They chose Lawson back then and there were many parameters to consider; how he interacted with the engineers, how the test went in Silverstone, how Yuki is doing? And who is the favorite of Horner and Dr. Marko,” says Albers.
“It would have been better if they had just looked at how he did in Japan. Maybe he could have been up there,” continues the Dutchman who also thought Tsunoda did well overall in his first weekend with Red Bull, save for qualifying.
“A shame. And then you are of course in Japan, where you want as few cars in front of you as possible, then you’re in a train and you can’t pass. You go totally crazy.”
