Albon backs ‘awesome’ Sargeant to bounce back from Williams exit

Alex Albon has tipped “awesome” Logan Sargeant to bounce back after Williams opted to drop the American ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.

On Tuesday ahead of Monza, Williams announced that junior Franco Colapinto would step up from F2 to make his grand prix debut in place of the under-performing and struggling Sargeant.

His performance at the Dutch GP sealed his fate after destroying his car in a huge, fiery accident early in FP3, and missing qualifying as a result.

Sargeant’s F1 career is now likely over after 36 starts, with the Floridian native never out-qualifying Albon, and just one point to his name that came at the 2023 United States Grand Prix, making him the first American to score a point since Michael Andretti in 1993.

Reflecting on the end of their partnership, Albon wished Sargeant well in his next chapter.

“I know firsthand how brutal this sport can be & it’s tough to see Logan leave the team mid-season,” Albon posted on social media.

“You gave it your all brother and it’s been a pleasure being teammates with you.

“I know whatever you do next, you’ll be awesome.”
