Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will lead a McLaren one-two off the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix grid as they seek a first constructors’ crown since 1998.
McLaren will be crowned champions if Ferrari does not out-score it by 21 points if Ferrari wins, or by 22 if the Scuderia does not.
However, although Carlos Sainz was third, team-mate Charles Leclerc is 20th and last on the grid following a 10-place grid penalty for a new battery.
Leclerc had a lap-time deleted in Q2 for track limits, leaving him 14th, and thus dropping to P20, although the provisional grid issued by the FIA has him in 19th.
Williams pair Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto have also taken a five-place grid penalty apiece for new gearboxes, leaving them P18 and P20.
Nico Hulkenberg had qualified in fourth place for Haas, but was stripped of that in a stewards investigation, demoting him to P7 and promoting Max Verstappen, Pierre Gasly and George Russell all up one position.
Lewis Hamilton, in his 246th and final Mercedes race, is 16th following a Q1 exit.
NOTE: Grid remains provisional until officially confirmed by the FIA.
