Lando Norris recovered from losing the lead to Max Verstappen at the start to pass his rival and win the Dutch Grand Prix.

Norris secured his second career victory and McLaren’s third of the season, winning by over 20 seconds from Verstappen.

Charles Leclerc claimed the final podium position in third after holding off Oscar Piastri over the final laps.

At the start, Verstappen leapt into the lead off the line, beating Norris into turn one, as George Russell moved ahead of Oscar Piastri into third. Verstappen led the early laps but Norris did not allow the Red Bull driver to escape out front, pulling within DRS range of the leader around lap 14.

Norris began to put the leader under pressure as Verstappen complained that his tyres were beginning to fade. Eventually, Norris used DRS to slipstream his way by the championship leader at the start of the 18th lap and into the lead.

Norris crept away from Verstappen out front until Verstappen was the first of the leading pair to pit at the end of lap 27 for hard tyres. McLaren covered the Red Bull by pitting Norris the next lap, allowing him to rejoin comfortably ahead of his rival.

After Piastri pitted last of the leaders, Norris resumed the lead and managed to comfortably pull away from his rival behind over the second half of the race. He took the chequered flag first to claim his second career victory and become the first driver other than Verstappen to win the Dutch Grand Prix since it returned to the calendar in 2021, also claiming the fastest lap on the final lap of the race.

Verstappen was more than 20 seconds back in second, while Charles Leclerc benefitted from an early stop for hards to move up to third, then kept Piastri behind him over the final laps to claim the final podium place in third.

Carlos Sainz Jnr took fifth, around five seconds behind Piastri, with Sergio Perez finishing in sixth. The two Mercedes of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished in seventh and eighth, respectively, after both opted to make one more stop than their rivals ahead for soft tyres – a move which appeared not to pay off. Pierre Gasly and Fernando Alonso claimed the final points positions in ninth and tenth.

All 20 drivers completed the race, without a single retirement throughout the 72-lap event.
