Brundle reveals ‘nailed on’ Verstappen future update

Ex-F1 driver Martin Brundle has weighed in on Max Verstappen’s immediate future in F1 with Red Bull amid persistent speculation over who he will drive for in 2025.

The Dutchman is contracted to Red Bull until the end of the 2028 F1 season – but throughout the year has been linked to Lewis Hamilton’s soon-to-be-vacated Mercedes seat.

Those rumours have stemmed from Toto Wolff’s public admiration for the three-time world champion and reports of growing dissatisfaction with the situation at Red Bull.

It was a controversy-filled start to the year for the Milton Keynes team, and whilst the talk of internal conflict has quietened of late, the constructors’ champion has lost its once significant performance gap to those behind.

There were also suggestions that he could seek an exit if Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko was released from the team. 

However, that loophole may now be closed, according to Brundle – at least for the time being, which leads the 65-year-old to predict Verstappen will not seek a departure in the coming months.

“There’s talk that Max Verstappen could leave the team if Helmut Marko left Red Bull,” the 65-year-old said on Sky Sports F1.

“My understanding is all of that paperwork has changed and that can’t happen – at least until 2026. Max is nailed on there.”
