F1 qualifying threatened by heavy rain as F2 sprint postponed

The F1 qualifying session around the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit is under threat following a heavy spell of rainfall at the track.

The intensity of the rain caused the Formula 2 sprint race to be postponed after a series of updates while the track conditions were assessed.

The downpour could cause qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix to be delayed, with 80 per cent chance of heavy rain forecast for the upcoming session.

Rain also impacted the final practice session with little running taking place during the 60-minute session.

Lance Stroll was a victim of the adverse conditions, losing control through the Eau Rouge/Raidillion complex and hitting the barrier.

A lengthy red flag was then deployed, which was only lifted to allow drivers the chance to tackle practice starts.
