For the second day in a row, the red flag had to be waved for the grass catching fire at the Suzuka Circuit.

After two red flags in FP2 for the aforementioned reason, the grass was once again burning in Japan, and it seems like the issue has not been resolved.

Today, the incident happened nine minutes into the session, in Turn 12, therefore cars had to return to the garage, as the marshals went on the track with fire extinguishers. After approximately five minutes, the session could continue.

After yesterday’s incident, the FIA released a statement: “While we continue to look into the fires that occurred during FP2, our focus before tomorrow will be on taking preemptive measures. The grass has been cut as short as possible, and loose, dried grass has been removed from affected areas.”

“Prior to tomorrow’s sessions, the grass will be dampened, and specific response teams will be stationed around the track,” the governing body concluded on Friday.
