Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur has hinted that the Scuderia will be eager to start next season with a competitive car to allow itself an early switch to the 2026 F1 project in a bid to fully understand a complete technical overhaul.

Ferrari endured a season with ups and downs in 2024. While the team displayed a fairly encouraging performance early on, the team was then unable to keep up with Red Bull, Mercedes and McLaren in the development battle, and an unsuccessful update to the floor introduced at Barcelona caused porpoising.

The team then managed to turn the situation around as it brought major upgrades to the SF-24 at Monza, which allowed the Scuderia to emerge as a contender for top places until the very end of the season. Such was the improvement in performance that Ferrari kept its title aspiration alive until the chequered flag fell at the season-closing Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Although McLaren ultimately claimed the Constructors’ title at the Yas Marina Circuit, Ferrari had a successful season, following a couple of tough years.

Speaking to La Stampa, Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur has revealed that the Scuderia is eager to maximize the potential of the 2025 F1 car – ‘677 project’ – in the early stages of the season in a bid to switch its focus onto the all-new 2026 F1 machine.

“On paper, it’s very good, but in Formula 1, everything is relative—doing well doesn’t necessarily mean being ahead of others. We know we have very strong rivals like Red Bull and McLaren.

“Every morning, we work on the data from the previous evening. We want to extract the maximum from the start, as we’ll need to focus on 2026 and the new regulations fairly early.” – the French manager pointed out,” the Frenchman is quoted as saying by La Stampa.
