In brief

Piastri “learned a lot” in Singapore

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix winner had a more difficult weekend in Singapore, qualifying over four-tenths of a second slower than team mate Lando Norris. That left him fifth on the grid, from where he recovered to finish third after getting ahead of the two Mercedes drivers. Piastri said the result was “good damage limitation” under the circumstances.

“Through the weekend, I was struggling quite a lot in practice and felt like I made a good step into qualifying,” he said. “[Then] didn’t execute as well as I needed to, but I feel like I’ve learned a lot through the weekend as well.

“So even if the end result wasn’t exactly what I hoped, I think we’ve done a good job of maximising the points, especially for the team. It’s a massive points haul for us, and I feel like I’ve learned some good lessons for next year as well. All in all, reasonably happy.”

Exxonmobil accused of misleading public

ExxonMobil, whose Mobil brand is the fuel and lubricants supplier to Red Bull’s two Formula 1 teams, is facing a lawsuit alleging it misled the public for decades over how easily plastic products could be recycled. In a 147-page lawsuit the attorney general of the US state of California claimed only a tiny fraction of the plastic waste handled by the company was recycled and accused it of deceptive marketing practices.

The state is seeking compensation which could be valued at several billions of dollars.
