Pulling poised to clinch F1 Academy title after double win in Singapore · RaceFans

Runaway F1 Academy championship leader Abbi Pulling continued her dominance of the series in Singapore, taking her seventh win from ten races by completing a double triumph this weekend.

Once again, Pulling converted pole to victory after leading every lap of the race, leaving her with an almost unassailable championship lead.

Ferrari junior Maya Weug finished second after beating Mercedes junior Doriane Pin, who took the final podium position in third.

When the race began, Pulling, starting from pole for the second straight race, held the lead into turn one. Behind her Maya Weug jumped ahead of front row starter Doriane Pin to take second place. Contact was made when Pin’s front wing appeared to clip Weug’s left-rear wheel, but the Ferrari junior driver avoided a puncture.

Pulling led the opening laps from Weug and Pin with Williams junior Lia Block in fourth. On lap four, the Safety Car was deployed when McLaren junior Bianca Bustamante spun at the exit of turn seven and was initially unable to drive away.

The Safety Car was only out for a lap as Bustamante was able to get going again with the race restarting at the start of lap six. Pulling led away at the restart with Weug and Pin unable to pressure the Alpine junior. A series of fastest laps allowed Pulling to gain a healthy lead of over three seconds to Weug, while Pin remained within a second of her rival ahead before backing off on the penultimate lap to push for the fastest lap on the final lap.

But it was business as usual for the championship leader, who continued to took entirely in control out in front of the race. She completed the 12 laps to complete a dominant weekend of double pole and double victory having led all 23 laps over the two races.

Weug was three seconds from the leader in second, admitting after the race that Pulling was “a step ahead” of the rest of the field. Pin was naturally disappointed to have dropped to third, but secured another podium position, her sixth from ten races.

Block finished fourth for the second consecutive race, ahead of Nerea Marti, Hamda Al Qubaisi and wildcard entrant Ella LLoyd in seventh. Chloe Chambers, Carrie Schreiner and Emely de Heus completed the top ten after an intense multi-car battle in the closing laps.

A double victory further extends Pulling’s already healthy championship lead to 95 points over Pin, making it near-certain that Pulling will clinch the championship at the first race of the next round in Losail as part of the Qatar Grand Prix weekend.
