Ferrari is eager to bounce back in Singapore after losing out in Baku
Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur hopes the Scuderia will be able to maintain its strong form at this weekend’s Singapore Grand after losing a potential victory at Baku last time out.
Having dominated the opening stages of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc lost out to McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who took his second victory of his F1 career.
The Monegasque took his fourth consecutive pole position in Baku on Saturday with a dominant lap, having been the quickest in Azerbaijan in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Despite building up an advantage of over six seconds on the medium tyres, Leclerc lost the lead after the first round of pit stops, and was unable to retake it despite a series of overtaking manoeuvres.
Reflecting on the Baku round, Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur did not hide his disappointment.
“Last weekend’s race did not produce the result we were hoping for, which in itself is proof that we are currently very much on the pace, at a time when Formula 1 is putting on a great show with very little to choose between the top four teams of the moment.
“We want to maintain this strong form in Singapore, another demanding street circuit. Both our drivers like it, indeed one of them won here last year.
Ferrari will arrive in Singapore after having won the spectacular race last time out courtesy of Carlos Sainz who applied a rarely-seen DRS strategy to take his second F1 victory with the Scuderia.
“We would like to do that again, continuing to work well as a team, as we have done in recent races.
“We have seen in the last two Grands Prix how important is tyre management and Singapore will be the third consecutive weekend where we will have the same three softest compounds in the range, so we should have a better understanding of them, even if every track is different.
“Of course, qualifying takes on great importance at the Marina Bay track and we are well prepared for it, so I’m sure we can give all our opponents a hard time,” Vasseur concluded.
