Sainz is a potential world champion, claims Ferrari’s Marc Gene
Former Minardi and Williams driver Marc Gene insists that his fellow Spanish racer Carlos Sainz has the talent and potential to become a Formula One world champion.
Carlos Sainz is set to leave Ferrari at the end of the current season as the Scuderia elected to sign seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton to partner Charles Leclerc.
The three-time grand prix winner took a long time to decide about his future, but he finally announced after the Belgian Grand Prix that hw would join Williams next year.
Marc Gene, the former Formula One Driver, who drove for Minardi and Williams from 1999 to 2004, insists that Sainz has the potential to become an F1 champion.
“Carlos is a potential world champion because he has competed against the best drivers. He had Max, then Lando, and Charles as benchmarks in the team, and he has always been on their level. I think no one can doubt that.”
Sainz will team up with Alex Albon at Williams with the Thai driver set to complete his fourth season at Grove, having joined the British outfit in 2022.
Gene, who is currently a brand ambassador for the Ferrari and also an F1 analyst for Sky Italy, has also praised the London-born racer.
“Sainz will have an extremely fast teammate, and he is also an exceptional guy to work with,” noted Gene.
